Jacq Laurenson
(b. 1968, Perth, Western Australia) lives and works between Brazil and Australia.
Jacq Laurenson has a practice which engages in interactions with the natural world, ancestral narratives and abstract symbols. Foraged nature elements, found objects, and everyday materials are assembled. While figurative details are reimagined into organic forms.
Her favourite way to work is on the floor, as this gives a sense that something is being born from the ground. Using materials such as paper, recycled cardboard, natural twine, wood, wire and raw canvas.
She grew up in a small coastal city, isolated by an expansive red desert and the Indian ocean. A world traveller, her passion for different cultures, languages and abstract symbology began in her youth. For decades she worked in creative roles, predominantly in graphic design and television.
Laurenson’s work resides at the intersection between drawing and painting, sculpture and photography.
